I invite you… to “escape from reality” and join me for a once-in-a-lifetime journey during which I shall personally guide you through the grandiose wilderness of the legendary Negev Desert – small by its geography, but tremendous by its history.

SUNSET CAMEL EXPEDITION ACROSS THE DESERT WILDERNESS

The MATE’ORA guide greets the distinguished travelers in front of the archeological site of the Biblical Tamar, today “Ir Ovot”. The ancient stones of this Caravanserai speak. Like the wind, the guests float around inside this labyrinth of dreams and legends, where they partake in hot and tasty “pick-me-ups” from the scorching “Tabun” prepared by the Bedouin women of the Amrani tribe. And so, the last of the moorings is finally cast off…
The one-day Odyssey begins with a unique guided camel expedition during which you will experience the unparalleled fusion of discovery, history, nature, poetry and the unforgettable desert night sky. The legendary “Ships of the Desert” and their privileged passengers walk along forgotten, unmapped trails once used by the ancient Incense Caravans travelling from the far-flung reaches of the Arabian peninsula. The path winds through magnificent dry-bed rivers carved from an immense ocean of stones and silence. It guides us into the setting sun and melts into the magic of the desert twilight. An old adage says: “In the desert, the paths never go wrong”. Never do adages! On this Odyssey, curiosity has a rendezvous with the unusual and the marvelous – nonchalant animals, surprising plants, loquacious footprints, but most of all, the unique celestial canopy leading the guests to the fires and flames of MATE’ORA – an “end-of-the-world” exclusive camp created with passion and love for a one-and-only night.

RELAXING AT THE ELEGANT "SALON UNDER THE STARS" – MATE'ORA

Upon the travelers’ arrival at MATE’ORA, the traditional Tea Ceremony is conducted by Sheikh Suleiman, the honorable Chief of the Amrani Tribe – the smallest tribe of the smallest desert. On this night, this ancestral sharing ritual takes place in an exquisite yet cozy “Salon under the Stars” – a salon proudly displaying precious knitted Bedouin fabrics, delectably taunting the surrounding wilderness. The tea is prepared in a magnificent teapot whose story refuses to cool down whilst a talented musician performs a unique music recital using rare and strange instruments. As the “Sonata” wafts out, the “Moonlight” remains… Finally, the stars below make way for the stars above. The privileged guests are invited to an unforgettable escapade into the desert starry canopy via the MATE’ORA telescope.

DINNING BY THE FIRESIDE – MATE'ORA

A traditional dinner is served at the foot of a sleepy cliff, illuminated by the light of the flickering flames and fires. A Bedouin “Madfunah” is removed from the fire’s ashes under which it has simmered “à l’étouffée” for hours. Carefully, it is laid upon the “smallest oasis in the world”: a traditional Bedouin table displaying festive colors and flavors.

INTO THE MAGIC OF THE NIGHT - MATE'ORA

As of Spring 2022, MATE’ORA will offer its distinguished travelers the possibility of sleeping in the traditional large tent at the foot of the illuminated cliff. A steward will ensure the maintenance of the fire and be at the guests’ disposal throughout the night.

ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE EXPEDITION AND BREAKFAST IN THE HEART OF THE DESERT

At sunrise, the adventurers will return the camp to a family of gazelles, relying as they do on the eternal generous shade provided by the MATE’ORA cliff. The expedition continues. The travelers embark on board the all-terrain vehicles for an ultimate off-road adventure. The only track visible is that which is drawn by the sun’s translucent morning rays that only the desert can offer.
Around an unnamed hill, an old Acacia will lend its shade to a Bedouin breakfast. Even whilst returning to the meeting point of the previous day, the adventure is still alive…
